The business architect is accountable for proactively and holistically leading or supporting EA activities that create deliverables that guide business models, people, process, organizational change, and investments in response to disruptive forces and toward achieving targeted business outcomes.

 

This individual is responsible for leveraging technology to enable the organization's future-state business capabilities, which can enable or alter business processes or practices that, in turn, drive the organization's targeted business outcomes.

 

Business architects must be capable of practically applying existing, new, and emerging technologies to new and evolving business and operating models. Conversely, they must be able to understand, monetize and operationalize new technologies, working collaboratively with business strategist, process owners, and subject matter experts to clarify strategic intentions, identifying business outcomes, exploring implications, impact, risks, and addressing stakeholders’ questions.

Responsabilités

MAIN ACTIVITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitoring business and technology trends that will impact the business and its extended ecosystem, and analyze its reactions to these trends at the strategy level. Identify and monitor critical constraints that may impact business outcomes, including resource, regulatory, market, geographic, cultural and business constraints.
  • Detail potential competitive threats from digital enterprises that are generally considered outside of traditional realm of competition
  • Engage key business stakeholders to facilitate both strategy and innovation planning.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders involved in digital strategy and digital innovation to develop an IT investment roadmap.
  • Review the organization's digital strategy and how the organization currently approaches digital innovation.
  • Create deliverables that illustrate how to strategically move the business forward.
  • Work with enterprise architects and key organizational stakeholders to define a strategic plan for leveraging integrated business architecture as part of the enterprise architecture.
  • Provide strategic consultation to assigned line-of-business (LOB) customers in defining or designing business capabilities, processes, functions and organizational structures, as well as in researching, identifying and internally marketing, selling and enabling technologies based on business and end-user requirements.
  • Be comfortable using business architecture tools and techniques, including strategy on a page, strategic planning, business model canvas, disruptions and trends, balance scorecard, economical modeling, risks and interdependencies, process models, business capability modeling, ecosystems modeling, customer and user profiling, journey maps, and human-centric design.
  • Participate in enterprise architecture development, including business architecture, information architecture, application portfolio and technical architecture.
  • Facilitate agreement on organizational work models and processes to meet business requirements.
  • Consult with business-facing projects, and maintain knowledge of their progress.
  • Collaborate with the enterprise program management office on reporting project status, issues, risks and benefits.
  • Assess near-term needs, using structured interview processes, to establish business priorities. Consult with technical subject matter experts, and develop alternative technical solutions. Advise on options, risks, costs versus benefits, and impact on other business processes and system priorities.
  • Collaborate with other IT functional areas to remain apprised of project status, and inform LOB customer management of progress. Conversely, keep IT's technology and service managers aware of key LOB customer issues, identifying and resolving potential problems and conflicts.
  • Facilitate development of enterprise solutions that combine knowledge of particular business processes and issues, general technological options, and process facilitation techniques.

Compétences

Level of education/qualifications normally required:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, information systems or related discipline, or equivalent and extensive related project experience; M.B.A. preferred.
  • Formal training in a relevant enterprise architecture methodology and framework beneficial

Specific work experience:

  • Five to eight years of business and/or IT experience with responsibilities managing strategy formulation, business performance/analytics, and program management
  • Management experience in one or more of the following areas: strategic planning, leadership, facilitation, business relationship management, business process management

Technical / functional skills:

  • Knowledge and understanding of different types of business and operating models (existing, new, emerging and hybrid)
  • Knowledge of existing, new and emerging technologies and being able to practically apply them to new business designs and business models
  • In-depth experience with business transformation and process redesign methods
  • Knowledge in all aspects of designing and constructing business processes, functions and organizational structures
  • Comprehensive knowledge of facilitation and organization change management
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills; ability to create original concepts and theories for a variety of projects

 

 

  • Experience developing and monitoring delivery of efficient and effective solutions to diverse and complex business problems
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, valuation and metrics development
  • Statistical and information analysis skills (a plus)
