Vue d'ensemble


The primary objective of this role is to Provide sound and effective labour and employee relations counsel / solutions, designed to ensure that negotiated terms and conditions in our collective agreements are fairly and equitably administered as well as, any applicable provincial and/or federal legislations.



  1. Safety: Serve as a role model in areas of safety, environmental stewardship, leadership, teamwork and continuous improvements to ensure alignment with company’s vision and critical success factors.


  1. Collective Bargaining Support: Participates, where required, and supports the contract bargaining process. Researches and develops documentation for collective bargaining agreements including, but not limited to, competitive analytics, language review / recommendations, economics and compliance. Support in bargaining process as required Facilitates the implementation of collective agreements in conjunction with the Labour Relations Manager(s).


  1. Collective Bargaining Agreement Administration: Acts as a first point of contact for all legal administration of labour files. Makes recommendations and assists with drafting Step 2 level grievance responses. Handles first level collective agreement interpretation and administration providing accurate and timely information to questions from employees and Lafarge leadership. Communicates employee information and relevant changes to the necessary parties and enters updates into the appropriate systems.


  1. Labour Legislation and Policy application and interpretation: Stays abreast of provincial / federal labour legislation and best practices and contributes to changes to Lafarge policies and practices as required. Participates in policy and LR process and practice interpretation as required.


  1. Information, Reporting and Record Keeping: Maintain all grievance and arbitration files. Works with the other support groups and HR colleagues to provide information, answer enquiries and ensure data records are accurate and maintained. Creates and maintains relevant reports for internal record retention. Ensures that Administration Forms for contractual / employee changes are properly authorized and forwarded to the appropriate parties as well as retention systems. Efficiently maintains accurate data in both the HR systems. Responds to requests for information, such as confirmation of employment, hours and seniority.


  1. LR – ER Projects: Coordinates and Participates in LR/ER projects and initiatives.


  1. Other: Other duties as required by the Labour and Employee Relations Managers.

Relationship with Others

  • Interacts with various members of the HR team and Operations team.


Specific Accountabilities:

  • The Labour Relations Representative is accountable for a wide variety of labour and employee relations support to the Managers of Labour and Employee Relations and all client groups, as well as first level response to collective agreement interpretation and administration.



  • Volume: 47 CBA and 5 working agreements



Education & Experience: 

  • Degree or Diploma in Labour Relations or Human Resources Management or equivalent coupled with a minimum of 2 years combined experience in Labour Relations, Business, Human Resources or with a law firm.
  • Participation at a negotiations table or on team an asset
  • Grievance / Arbitration administration
  • Exposure to Conflict resolution / Corrective Action programs and processes

Knowledge & Skills:


  • Bilingual in French and English
  • Demonstrated commitment to working in an environment with high confidentiality and discretion.
  • Able to work both independently and within a team.
  • Ability to exercise tact and discretion in dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize, multi-task and handle competing deadlines.
  • Strong customer service skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to accept and implement change.
